Anti-oxidant (Oxidation inhibitor)

Glossary Term

Definition and Purpose

An anti-oxidant, also known as an oxidation inhibitor, is a type of additive employed to decelerate the oxidative degradation of lubricants. Oxidation, a chemical reaction with oxygen, can alter the chemical composition of lubricants, impacting their properties and reducing their service life. By inhibiting oxidation, anti-oxidants extend the functional lifespan of lubricants.
